What's the temperature? [Narelle's Diary]
Good afternoon everyone,
We started our day off here with a fun game of Big BINGO! We all took it in turns to pick put a letter or a number from the bag. We had to ask who needed it and pass it to that person. The first person to fill in all of their letters or numbers was the winner!!
We read a story today about a boy that travelled from Alsaka to Hawaii and how the temperatures are very different.
So we checked our thermometer inside Pipi and outside Pipi. The temperatures were very different, but when we brought the thermometer from outside to inside it started to rise. The kids were very surprised!
We all took it in turns to draw a thermometer on the whiteboard as an example.
We each had a long retangular piece of paper which we made our very own thermometers.
Everybody set their thermometers to different temperatures - some were VERY cold and others were even over 100 degrees Celsius!!
Hope you are all well.
See you soon

Valentine's Day! [Narelle's Diary]
Good afternoon everyone,
Today is a special day at Pipi - Valentine's day!!
This morning we all took a seat upstairs. What were we waiting for?
Then we could smell something really yummy and it was brown.
Yeah! It was chocolate. We were going to make our own chocolates for Valentine's Day.
We carefully poured the chocolate into our heart-shaped moulds.
We also decorated our chocolates with yummy sprinkles and colourful stars and hearts.
We put them into the fridge to harden.
And everyone received their very own handmade chocolates. Happy Valentine's Day!!
We enjoyed our morning craft today which was fun and yummy!
Hope you are all well. Take care.

2014-02-05 [Narelle's Diary]
Hello everyone,
I hope you are all doing well and keep yourselves warm. Although the sun was shining, it was freezing today - 20 degrees this morning!
We were nice and warm at Pipi today. We warmed ourselves up with a rhyming song. We sang "This ol' man". We found rhyming words for all of the numbers from 1 to 10.
We had a tricky one for number nine and used a dinosaur skeleton to show the kids what a spine is. We learn many different things here at Pipi!
Afterwards, we really warmed up with some very energetic dance songs. We were many characters such as stick men, chickens and even bouncy rubber bands!
As always we had a very challenging flashcard time. We started off with trying to think of food that starts with all of the letters of the alphabet. Can anyone think of a food starting with X??
Our lovely Pipi kids were very helpful today at lunchtime for bread day. Many gave a hand to help serve lunch. Thank you!!
Take care and see you soon

Good afternoon everyone,
Today we sang lots of songs and did some dancing. The kids are doing a wonderful job practising our songs for this month and remembering all of the actions too. Well done everyone! And because everybody did such a lovely job at singing without the teachers we all got a little treat. We had two things to choose from - chocolate cake or rice crackers. I was surprised most kids wanted the rice snacks!!!
We had a pretty challenging flashcard time today. We brought out the boxes and chose some new flashcards. It was difficult to remember flashcards we hadn't seen for a long time and some were even new ones for us!!
As always we enjoyed doing our workbooks and loved our playtime!
Hope you are all well.
See you soon.

Party hats [Narelle's Diary]
Hello everyone,
I hope you are all well. We did many different things today at Pipi.
We started off the day by planting some bulbs. Kids who have already planted a bulb were lucky enough to plant another!
Then we did our morning stretches to music and sang some songs.
After that we all enjoyed some flashcards with difficult clues given. It was challenging, but the kids did a great job.
We even had time to read the newspaper!!
No, we used English newspaper to make a special hat for our special birthday party! We folded the paper in half and made some triangles. It was a pirates hat!
We also wrote a birthday message for the birthday party of one of our special boys.
We sang happy birthday to him while he blew out the candles on his birthday cake. He was also lucky to get many nice pressents. Happy Birthday K!!!
Take care
See you soon

Fun in the snow [Narelle's Diary]
Good afternoon everyone,
Happy new year! I hope you all enjoyed your winter holidays.
Today we had so much fun in the snow. We took the bus to a big local park and found a cross country skiing track. We played with the sleds pulling each other along, up and down the track.
Then we saw a big hill of snow. It would make a perfect slide.
So we packed up our sleds and headed over to our new snow slide.
The kids had lots of fun sliding down and seeing how far and fast they could travel.
The older kids even helped the smaller ones up the big slope.
As we were leaving we found a balloon with water frozen inside! We popped the balloon and found a funny ice shape. Unfortunately we couldn't take it in the bus with us!
It was a fun day playing outside.
See you all soon.

Gingerbread man! [Narelle's Diary]
Hello everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well and not slipping on the ice!
Today we checked our advent calendar again and it said "Draw Santa Claus". On a large piece of paper we all drew some part of Santa. We also used cotton wool for a nice fluffy and soft beard.
For flashcard time, we had an answer hat. We were all showed flashcards and if you were wearing the hat you had to answer. Great job everyone and our lovely Pipi kids also helped each other if we didn't know.
Today we heard a story about a cheeky Gingerbread man that kept running away. We made our own Gingerbread man. The kids were very creative with decorating their gingerbread men.
After lunch, we always enjoy doing our workbooks. The kids love to finish their pages and get a sticker for the day. Everyone is working very hard and doing so well in their workbooks.
One of our youngest faces at Pipi!
Hope you all have a lovely winter holiday.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Jingle bells! [Narelle's Diary]
Hi everyone,
Today we checked our advent calender and it was written that we have to play a game. So we decided to play a game of musical chairs to funky Christmas music.
Students all eager to answer a question at flashcard time.
Todays craft was a lovely Christmas bell. We decorated it with many colourful Christmas images that we made by using our holepunches.
The result was a colourful and jingly bell that we hung on our Christmas tree.
In the afternoon we had a short playtime outside. There wasn't enough snow to make a snowman but there was enough to make snowballs. We had lots of fun trying to get each other.
Have a great week.
Take care

Christmas season! [Narelle's Diary]
Good afternoon everyone,
Start of the last month of the year and Christmas!! The start of December has a very different feeling in Australia. Everyone is looking forward to the end of the school year and 6 weeks of summer holidays at the beach!
We opened up the 3rd day on our advent calendar tree today. The note said to draw a Christmas tree. So we did! Everybody helped to draw our Chrstmas tree on the blackboard and we also put on some colourful decorations.
For our morning song we danced to a famous christmas song "Jingle Bells" and we danced with real bells around the room. It was very jingling and noisy!!
We then placed the bells down nicely in front of us and had to put them in order by ringing them and checking the notes on the cards.
The kids enjoyed going through our Christmas books and deciding which ones we will read today.
Finally the time had come to decorate our Christmas tree! The kids each had several decorations that they put on the tree. We covered it with tinsel and of course the star was put on top of the tree.
We rocked around our Christmas tree when it was finished.
Looking forward to all the Christmas joy this month.
Take care

Dinosaurs and a rabbit!! [Narelle's Diary]
Good afternoon,
I hope everyone had a lovely long weekend. We enjoyed ourselves here at Pipi today. We had quite a day of challenging activities that the students completed beautifully.
We started off the morning by making silly sentences. Each student chose one part of the puzzle that came out to be a long and very silly sentence. All students did a nice job at reading the sentences. We also had a good laugh!!
The craft for today was done in small groups. We had three groups that all chose one animal to make. We had a choice of a rabbit or two dinosaurs. First we coloured in the different bones then we assembled it. Some parts were a bit tricky but we worked together to get it completed.
The final craft was wonderful. We had a happy pink rabbit and some very colourful dinosaurs!
Great job everyone.
Take care
Narelle
